Carmen Yancy English was born June 13, 1948, in Manhattan, New York. One of seven children born to the late Fransico Matos and Damaza Melendez aka Anna Matos. Anna Matos moved to Long Island, New York where she met Santos Matos who help raised the children.
Carmen attended Brentwood High School. She met and married her high school sweetheart, the late Richard Yancy. This union was blessed with one daughter. Carmen joined the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized in 1985. She enjoyed doing door-to-door ministry, reading The New World Translation Bible along with attending many of the Regional and Circuit assemblies of Jehovah Witnesses.
With a strong faith in Jehovah, Carmen and her daughter moved to Zebulon, North Carolina in 1990 where she continued her dedication to Jehovah. She met and married the late Barry Donald English. Carmen worked as a CNA for various Assisted Living facilities in the local area for many years. Later in life, her joy was becoming a grandmother (Nanna) spending time with her grandchildren. Her loving kindness and faith were always present to anyone she encountered.
She is preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, two husbands, one brother, Hector Matos, and one sister, Catherine Serrano.
She is survived by one daughter Renee Yancy Carpenter, and son-in-law Eric Carpenter of Raleigh, North Carolina, three brothers: Louis Matos of Belleview Florida, Angelo Matos of Tucson Arizona, and Emilio Matos of San Bernardino California, one sister: Margaret Sanchez of West Islip New York, Two grandchildren: Paris Anna Carpenter and Melik Richard Carpenter of Raleigh, North Carolina, seven nieces: Cathy, Anita, Georgina, Tara, Alexandra, Jennifer and Gina, three nephews: Ferando, Ramon (Muncho), Louis Jr. and a host of family and friends.
