Jeffrey Lee Cochran was born in Waynesville, North Carolina on November 16, 1964 to Roger Lee and Barbara Henson Cochran. He transitioned from this earthly life on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at his home with his loving wife Anthonette “Netta” by his side.
After high school Jeffrey attended Brevard College and North Carolina State University. He then began a career in broadcast communications where he served in a variety of positions for the benefit of viewers and listeners everywhere. Among his many titles were Radio Disc Jockey at 93.9 Raleigh, Television News Director & Master Control Operator for WLFL-WRDC Channel 22. It was during this time, in 1988, that Jeff first met Netta in the hallways of The Sinclair Broadcasting building where they were both working in radio.
While his professional life was centered on the airwaves, his personal life was fueled by a lifelong passion for the music itself. Jeffrey was a broadcast communication professional by day and a rockstar by night. His parents got him his first guitar lessons at 11 years old, leading to him enjoying a life playing in multiple bands. Jeffrey amassed a collection of over 17 guitars and other stringed instruments. He loved to play music and he loved to talk about music. “Uncle Jeff” shared a special bond over his guitars with his niece, Kamiliah. In any given conversation you may hear him talk about his favorite song “Brown Sugar” by his favorite artist, ZZ Top. One of his most treasured quotes was, “Music is what feelings sound like,” by Georgia Cates.
Thirty years after their initial meeting, Jeff and Netta’s paths crossed again. They got reacquainted over a spaghetti dinner. It was then that his life’s soundtrack reached its high note. On November 9, 2019, Jeff made Netta his bride and he dedicated his favorite song to his favorite lady. Together Jeff and Netta enjoyed traveling, the beach, star-gazing, watching movies, story-telling, and of course listening to music. Jeffrey also loved animals, the NC State Wolfpack, and the Las Vegas Raiders.
In May of 2022 Jeff’s health began to decline. Netta remained a faithful wife and dedicated caretaker until his final moments.
Jeffrey leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Dr. Anthonette Wright Cochran, parents Roger Lee and Barbara Henson Cochran of Nantahala, NC, uncle Charles Henson of Hiwassie, Ga., aunt Clara Queen of Canton, NC, aunt Ruth Ellen Muse of Waynesville, NC, aunt Ernestine Smith of Bunn, NC, brother-in-law James Wright of Concord NC, sisters-in-law Ellender (Clarence) LeMay, Costella Wright, Linda Wright, & Regina Norman all of Bunn, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
